Connect Infomaniak, GMX, Bluewin and other calendars

Zitli has its own buttons for Google, Outlook and Apple. Infomaniak, GMX, Bluewin and many other calendars connect through «Other calendar», over CalDAV, an open standard. Here is what each provider asks for.

1. What a connected calendar does

Before Zitli offers a time on your booking page, it checks the calendars that are switched on. If you already have an appointment there, that time can't be booked.

New bookings are entered in the calendar you choose, so you see them next to your other appointments.

Infomaniak, GMX, Bluewin, Posteo, mailbox.org and many others support CalDAV. In Zitli they connect through «Other calendar»: you pick your provider, Zitli fills in the server address, and you enter a username and a password.

2. Before you start: an app password

Many providers don't accept your usual password from other apps, or only while two-step sign-in is off. Instead they let you create an app password: a separate password just for Zitli. You can delete it at any time without changing your main password.

Use an app password wherever your provider offers one. The sections below say where to find it.

3. Connect the calendar in Zitli

1. Sign in to Zitli at app.zitli.ch. During account setup, click «Connect» next to «Other calendar» in the calendar step. Later, open app.zitli.ch/apps/caldav-calendar/setup.

2. The page is called «Connect another calendar». Under «Your provider», pick yours: Infomaniak, GMX, Bluewin (Swisscom), Posteo, mailbox.org or «Other». For the listed providers Zitli fills in the server address; for «Other» you enter it yourself.

3. Enter the username and password your provider asks for. The sections below and the hints under each field say which.

4. Click «Connect». Zitli says «Your calendar is connected.» and takes you back to where you came from.

4. Infomaniak (kSuite, Infomaniak Mail)

«Username»: not your email address, but a short code such as AB12345. You find it at config.infomaniak.com under «Manual synchronization».

«Application password»: create one in the Infomaniak Manager (manager.infomaniak.com), in your account's security settings under «Application passwords». Your usual Infomaniak password doesn't work while two-step sign-in is on.

Zitli uses the server address https://sync.infomaniak.com.

5. GMX

«Email address»: your full GMX address, for example name@gmx.ch.

«Password»: your GMX password. If two-step sign-in is on for your GMX account, create an app-specific password in the GMX security settings and use that instead.

Zitli uses the server address https://caldav.gmx.net.

6. Bluewin (Swisscom)

«Email address»: your full Bluewin address, for example name@bluewin.ch.

«Password»: your Bluewin email password. You can change it in My Swisscom.

Zitli uses the server address https://caldav.bluewin.ch. If it finds no calendar there, a field opens for the address of the calendar itself (or click «Calendars not found? Use your calendar's own address»). In Bluewin webmail open the calendar, then its properties, copy the CalDAV address (it starts with https://caldav.bluewin.ch/caldav/), paste it and click «Connect» again.

7. Posteo, mailbox.org and other providers

Posteo and mailbox.org: pick them in the list, then enter your full address and your password (or an app password if two-step sign-in is on).

Another provider, a Nextcloud server or the mail package of your web host: pick «Other». Zitli then also asks for the «Server address». Search your provider's help for «CalDAV» to find it.

8. After connecting

Zitli switches on every calendar of the connected account, so all their appointments block time on your booking page.

To check for clashes in fewer calendars, open «Settings», then «Calendars», and switch off the ones that shouldn't count. Under «Add to calendar», choose the calendar that new bookings are entered in.

Then test it: put an appointment in your provider's calendar and check that the time is no longer offered on your booking page.

9. Proton Calendar and Tuta

Proton Calendar and Tuta encrypt your calendar so that no other app can read it, and they don't offer CalDAV. That is why they can't be connected to Zitli at the moment.

Your bookings still reach you: Zitli sends you an email for every booking. Times you are busy elsewhere you block in your availability in Zitli.

10. What Zitli stores

Zitli stores the server address, username and password in encrypted form. It reads the appointments in the calendars that are switched on, to know when you are busy, and enters new bookings in the calendar you chose.

To disconnect, remove the account in Zitli under «Settings», then «Calendars». If you used an app password, also delete it at your provider: from then on, Zitli can no longer reach the calendar. Details are in our privacy policy.

11. Problems and support

«Your provider did not accept these details»: check the username and the password. Most often the username is wrong (for Infomaniak, the short code and not the email address), or the usual password was used where the provider wants an app password.

«Zitli found no calendar at this address»: check the provider you picked and, for «Other», the server address. For Bluewin, use the calendar's own address as described above.

«Zitli could not connect this calendar»: try again in a moment. With «Other», Zitli can't tell why, so check the server address, the username and the password.
